Belkys' philosophy and focus on treatment is that of a strength-based perspective, person in relation to others and cultural humility and the expertise of the person. Meaning that, one, folks are seen from the perspective that all beings are amazingly unique and talented and that some of our "deficits" we find the strength in them alongside with you. Two, that your environment and those around you and your past experiences all inform your views and interactions and lastly the belief that you are an expert in you and that we can work together to help you achieve the goals that you have in mind. You will bring your expertise in you, and she’ll bring in skills and tools that she’s gathered through trainings and certifications to support you.
She’s trained in Parent-child interactive therapy, treating OCD in both adults and children, working with ODD, ADHD/ADD and autism folks. Heavily trained in trauma work with children, teenagers, adults and families. I am in my first year of a 2-year program in Object Relations Theory and Practice (Core Program) through the International Psychotherapy Institute. Belkys also runs Institute of Care, Advocacy, Research and Education (ICARE, LLC), where she provides individual therapy, advocacy efforts to individuals in needs, conducts social research and provides education in community talks.
